How to Light Night Exteriors w/ Blue Tones: Part 1

INCLUDED IN THIS LESSON:  7 Minutes of Video, In-Depth Written Breakdown, Topdown Lighting Diagram

IN THIS LESSON YOU WILL LEARN:  Many of you have asked how I light at night, so in this How to Light Night Exteriors series, I want to show you my style of night lighting. We are going to say this is a horror film with two girls who run down the hillside, come up to camera looking terrified, and then they exit frame. I’m going to create simulated moonlight, add in a nice bounce light, and fog up the place to make it nice and moody. I’ve done this on many of the feature films that I’ve lit, but we’re going to do this DIY style using our DIY metal halide 1500 watt sports fixtures. This is part one on the location scout.

Scouting locations so that you can work on a limited budget is where this in depth lesson is headed.  How can you find a location that has elevation to increase your height of your moon light source, what am I looking for in a night exterior location, where you place the back light, where you will place the fill light?  All these questions and more will be answered as we go for a more budget friendly way to light Night Exteriors.
